Raised Gluten Free Dutch Apple Pie

Instructions

Crust

In a large bowl, combine the gluten free flour, xanthan gum and salt. Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle in the ice water and stir with a fork until the dough is moistened. Gather the dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 9-inch pie dish. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to fit the pie dish. Transfer the dough to the pie dish. Trim the edges and crimp the edge with a fork. Set aside.

Filling

In a separate bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, combine the apples, granulated sugar, melted butter, and chopped nuts. Mix together and pour into the pie dish. Dot the top of the pie with remaining butter.

Baking

Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender. Allow the pie to cool before slicing and serving.
