Ingredients
- 2 large apples (Golden Delicious variety is best)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Wash and dry the apples. Cut each apple into 8 wedges and place them on a baking sheet.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, butter, corn syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly.
- Once the mixture has reached a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chopped walnuts, if using.
- Pour the caramel mixture over the apple wedges, using a spoon to evenly coat each one.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the caramel is bubbling.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
