- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt, set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix to combine.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in 3 additions, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
