Ingredients
To make a gingerbread mansion you’ll need the following ingredients:- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup water
- Royal icing and/or fondant for decorating
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven & Grease the Pan
Before you start creating your gingerbread mansion, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Then, grease a 9x13 inch pan with butter and set aside.Step 2: Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Set aside. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the melted butter, dark brown sugar, molasses, egg, and water until combined. Then, slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.Step 3: Roll Out the Dough
Divide the dough in half and place each half on a lightly floured surface. Roll each half out until it’s about 1/4 inch thick.Step 4: Cut Out the Pieces
Using a sharp knife or cookie cutter, cut out the pieces for your gingerbread mansion. You can make any shape you want, but it’s best to keep it simple. Cut out two large rectangles for the walls, two rectangles for the roof, and four small rectangles for the windows.Step 5: Bake the Pieces
Place the pieces on the prepared pan and bake for 12-15 minutes. The pieces should be lightly browned. Allow to cool completely before assembling.Step 6: Assemble the Mansion
Once the pieces have cooled, it’s time to assemble the mansion. Start by attaching the walls to the base. Use royal icing or melted chocolate to “glue” the pieces together. Then, attach the roof pieces to the walls. If desired, you can add additional pieces to the roof to give it a more detailed look.Step 7: Decorate the Mansion
Once the gingerbread mansion is assembled, you can start decorating. Use royal icing, fondant, and/or candy to decorate the walls, windows, and roof. You can also add other fun details, such as trees, fences, or other gingerbread figures.Step 8: Enjoy!
Once your gingerbread mansion is complete, it’s time to enjoy! Cut into slices and serve with a glass of cold milk.Nutrition
