Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- Royal icing and/or edible decorations (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add molasses and egg to butter mixture and mix until fully combined.
- Gradually add in dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-inch (1/2 cm) thickness.
- Cut out desired shapes and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Allow to cool completely before decorating.
- Decorate with royal icing and/or edible decorations, if desired.
